My Methods

If you’re looking for a gadget with promises of quick fixes, then I am not the trainer for you. I primarily use a double jointed snaffle, but always some sort of snaffle. For a class, I will ride my western horses in a low ported,(or whatever fits their mouth best, but I find this bit to be the easier transition), long shank curb. I only ride in curbs if the horse is fully trained on the riders seat, leg, and neck rein aids. All of my horses go in a halter, and I believe your horse can too.

I’m here to bring back the balanced horse. The horse with a strong back, straight legs, and soft, flexible neck and jaw. The horse who chews and swallows, who’s lips dance in communication, instead of gaping in pain. The horse who is free to lick and chew, stretch downwards into the hand, and find relaxation in their work. Every buck that happens in training, whether it be a first saddling to a first ride shouldn’t be from fear. I believe that every horse, with the proper understanding of what we are asking of them, can have a buck free relationship.

I use many methods in my training, mixed and match for each horse depending on their needs and discipline. But they can be broken down to 2 main pillars

-R+ (treat training)

Provides an immediate positive association with whatever task assigned. Helps ensure horses understand what is being asked of them, in a way that makes sense to a horse.

-Correct Classical Dressage

Poll should be the highest point, with a swinging back and hind legs should reach underneath, achieving over-stride. the horse should be light in the bridle and responsive to seat and leg cues. When trained with true classic dressage methods, a horse will respond off of seat and leg cues, the bit should only be held in light contact and used in the lightest of touches, like holding a sandwich. if you apply too much pressure, everything falls apart.

Charlie

Charlie, 6 months into training

Charlie, 1st day home

Charlie was bought for a novice rider to learn how to ride on. He was not ridden for an unknown amount of time, with little to no history other than the scars on him. After getting his teeth done, he was a changed horse and is now a nervous beginners horse, and they are gaining confidence in each other every ride

Novice riders 2nd ride

Jo, 5, at her first show, giving me her all

Josephine, (JO)

Jo is my personal horse, currently in training level dressage with a big future ahead of her.

I started her at 3 years old ridden 2-3 days a week.

Look at the lift in the front end, the ‘squat’ in the hind, the light contact, the slightly lifted tail, all indicating she is using her body. Coming through my seat and legs, into my hands, balanced and light.

Jo at 4, lightly backed in w.t.c.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Kyla Davidson on Nebraska, first ride after rescue. Put down 9/24/24. Fly high ol’ lady <3

I started riding at 10 years old, at a simple ranch in Central Oregon. i rode there for 7 years, and found a love for horses. I began training Nightcloud around 17, and received formal dressage training in a working student position for two years.

I specialize in R+ and Classical dressage, with a love for all equestrian sports. I personally ride western and traditional dressage, showjumping, cross country, trail riding, and driving, and hope to one day dabble in saddle seat and working equitation.

Ive taught a dozen or so children to ride, and had the pleasure of taking one to few classes. I have little experience showing under saddle, but that is soon to change now with all of the new horses I have! I am familiar with the show world in other ways however. I have shown ATMF Morgans and won blues and reserve champion 3 times in the Oregon Morgan Classic (2023-2024)

In my non-show world, I’ve cut, sorted and moved cattle across the ranch, taken my horses hunting, and just about everything you can do on a horse I’ve tried at least once.

Unfortunately on Friday the 13th of October 2024, while riding Jo in a nearby field trail, she slipped in a matter of a few seconds. She fell right on my leg and snapped my tibia in 2! Rod and a few screws later and I’m good as new!

I will be back and at ‘em in full swing in 2025, but I am still available for ground lessons in the meantime.

If I missed anything or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by text or email at any time!
